Each week we add new koi fish to the website. The koi in the photos are the exact koi fish you will receive when you order!
This blue koi, with Doitsu patterns, is eye-catching and unique. showing blue shades from soft sky blue to deep navy, combined with black, white, or gray. With high-lighted red around the eyes, red lips and inner red on the front fins.
The blue color in koi isn't from blue pigment (which koi don't naturally have), but from: Black pigment (melanin) layered under translucent white skin.
-
When the light reflects off these layers just right, the fish appears blue to our eyes.
-
The depth and tone of blue depend on:
-
Skin thickness (thinner skin = lighter blue)
-
Water quality and temperature
-
Genetics (specific varieties are bred for blue tones)
