The fish in the photo and the video below is the exact shubunkin goldfish you receive when you order.

The red coloration on Shubunkin goldfish comes from selective breeding of goldfish varieties that carry strong red (orange) pigmentation genes. This pigment is mainly carotenoid-based, which is the same type of pigment found in carrots and shrimp.

Shubunkins are a type of calico goldfish, bred from crosses between comet goldfish and calico or nacreous-scaled varieties. Their red spots or patches are part of the calico pattern, which includes a mix of red, orange, blue, black, and white.

 To enhance red coloration:

Feed foods rich in carotenoids (like spirulina, krill, or high-quality color-enhancing pellets).

  • Provide good water quality and sunlight—both influence pigment expression.

These comets have a varied diet that includes processed pellets, fresh greens, and even algae. If you currently have koi in the pond, you can feed them the same food.  add fish food to the order  120g of fish food lasts about 1-2 weeks.
